About Gary Holpin Photography
Landscape photographer, commercial photographer, Devon photographer
Welcome & thanks for visiting
Hi, I’m Gary, a professional photographer based in the beautiful county of Devon in the South West of England, and a leading Devon photographer for landscapes. My interest in photography began ten years ago, but it soon developed into a passion which has now become my full time profession. I feel lucky to be doing what I love, and truly believe that loving your job is the best way to be great at it!
Originally from rural Gloucestershire, I spent many years in the South East of England, a long way from the coast, so it seems rather ironic to now be particularly well known for my seascape photography! Having started my career as a scientist, and spending 30 years working for the Met Office in mainly science and technical roles, it was rather a surprise to me after moving to Devon, that not only did I also have a creative side, but I also had a hidden talent for photography that I only discovered in my 40's!
A lot more than landscapes
I first got into photography after walking the beautiful South West Coast Path: I was so disappointed that my photos didn't do justice to the beautiful coastal scenery that I decided to walk all 630 miles all over again, but this time to also teach myself photography along the way!
A few years later and I find myself as a professional photographer, widely published and with landscape photos which have won national awards. But I do much more than landscapes, providing photography training to businesses & individuals on how to take beautiful photographs, and providing professional photography services to businesses across the South West. My commercial specialisms are property photography, business photography, people photography & aerial (drone) photography.
When I'm not behind the camera...
When I’m not behind the camera, I still love walking on the coast and moors of Devon and the South West; and afterwards enjoying a good old pint of West Country cider in front of the log burner. The remainder of my free time seems to now be taken up by running around after my newly acquired pair of very cheeky rescue cats, Cassie and Lily!
