About Gary

Welcome to my website

Hi, I’m Gary, a professional photographer based in Honiton, East Devon. It still seems strange saying that, as I spent 29 years in the corporate world of the Met Office (so I also know a lot about the weather!) until I finally left in 2019 to follow a passion for photography.

Walking the South West Coast Path - not once but twice!

I fell in love with the coast and moorland of Devon when walking the South West Coast Path in 2007-2009, but was so disappointed that my photos didn’t do justice to the amazing scenery that I had to walk all 630 miles a second time, with the sole intention of teaching myself to take a good photo! How’s that for dedication!

More than just landscapes

My first passion was for landscapes, and these days I can still often be found lurking at sunrise and sunset around the beauty spots of Devon, and I licence my landscape photos of Devon to businesses, however, more recently I have successfully applied myself to a number of commercial photography genres. I specialise in photography training (both for individuals and businesses) and commercial photography (primarily interior and bespoke shoots for tourism businesses). I don’t do ‘posed’ people photography (such as weddings), but if you’re after candid (non-posed) people or event shots I would love to help with that. I’ve also written and illustrated several books (with my first coffee table book of Devon on the way) and also give talks for camera clubs and similar groups.

When I'm not behind the camera...

When I’m not behind the camera, I still try and get out walking on the coast or moors, sitting in front of a roaring log fire with a pint of cider or a good book, or running around after the real boss in my house, my very old (90 in human years!) moggy, Fizzy.

Looking for a Photographer?

My years serving important international Met Office corporate clients and partners (including Virgin Atlantic and British Airways), as well as managing major commercial projects has come in handy in ensuring that as well as being the creative force behind the camera, I also have the skills to make sure my clients go away happy with both the quality of the images, and the service I provide, and feedback on assignments so far suggests I’m doing pretty well! So, if you’re in the South West and looking for a photographer, why not get in touch?
